We live in two places now:

our bodies, rooms, cities and towns; and the body, room, city, town of the internet.

While the culture fixates on what we might lose to AI, we are busy losing it already— losing the parts of ourselves that are incompatible with constant digital connection.

This project goes looking for those disappearing places and asks what, if anything, might be saved.

Co-conceived with Lauren Zeftel, I’M NOT HERE RIGHT NOW is a practice-based project. Participants of community “working groups” process the disembodiment of digital life through writing, conversation and physical theater.

What is a working group?

Over 6-10 sessions, we commit to creating a “here” together. We attempt to physicalize “there” – the digital world – a place that we go and come back from or, increasingly, inhabit ambiently all the time. We map the changes this increasingly split-screen existence is bringing. The wager is: if we approach questions about technology and loss from a body perspective, things will become visible to us that we can’t access through thought-work alone.

Material from each working group gets collected and will eventually contribute to a performance piece, a modular archive of ideas and stories that can be performed in many arrangements.
